What’s your damage?
I got this tattoo because i feel like everyone has their baggage..something thats “damaged” them a bit. changed the way they think..I know i have my damage so i’m just asking whats yours. however people seem to think im asking my own brain whats wrong with it…i’m not to fond of that interpretation … but thats the risk you take with tattoos.

This tattoo was done by Shawn Renner at Studio X Tattoo in Vancouver, Washington. I was a little nervous because it was my first tattoo and it was on my ribs, but he did an amazing job, and barely even hurt like I had expected it to.
I’ve always wanted this tattoo, ever since I’ve heard the song Hero, by Regina Spektor. Those specific lyrics are just extremely relevant to my life because I’m a writer, but I’m also independent and prefer to do things on my own. I think it just fits me perfectly.

These are also lyrics from Neutral Milk Hotel’s song “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea”, which I adore. The roses are my favorite color, and the idea to put them there came to me in a dream.

Mom started reading the Harry Potter series aloud to me when I was five years old. We read one chapter every night well into fifth grade. We loved the series so much, we read the first four books three times while waiting for the release of Order of the Phoenix. She taught me to read out loud with the Harry Potter books. She always encouraged me to discuss themes and underlying plots throughout the series. Mom never shied from talking about the heavy references to death and loss and always focused on the ideas of love, friendship and strength. To this day, even with our busy lives, we set aside time to read the same books and discuss them in great length. I was taught that reading was like breathing - one needed it to thrive.
The word “Always.” may not be the biggest or most important moment in the Harry Potter series but it really captures my love for my mom and my love for books. (It doesn’t hurt that “Always” plays a role in The Hunger Games, either. Another book series Mom and I have bonded over.) So thank you, Mom, for all you’ve done for me in the last eighteen years. I love you always.
