California poppies remind me of my home in the Santa Cruz mountains, where they grow like crazy in the springtime and summer. Regardless of where I moved in the past or where I’ll be in the future, home will now always be with me. Done by the AMAZING Adrian Aguayo at Chimera Tattoo in Santa Cruz, California. He sang me Prince songs when I wanted to pussy out from the pain, it was the best.
This is my poppy. It was my fourth tattoo, and it was done in October of last year. Poppies have been my favorite flower for as long as I can remember. My grandmom occasionally wore a pin of a poppy to church. Gran was sick and in the hospital when I got this. I remember coming home that night after getting the tattoo, and my mom telling me that Gran was getting worse. She passed away a few days after that. Even though this tattoo wasn’t necessarily a tribute to my grandmom, I think that’s what I’ll always see it as.

I have always loved poppies, and decided i needed it. I got it last january at ‘rebirth tattoo’ in anchorage alaska, my home. by coral an artist there. Didn’t realize that spot was such a sensitive spot.. worst pain ever, i swore off tattoos after that..but thinking about my next now hahaa. Thank god for my best friend who held my hand the whole hour and a half… wouldn’t of made it without her.
